J. Cole, ScHoolboy Q & Rae Sremmurd Earn Platinum Singles & Albums

N.W.A. and Wiz Khalifa have also received plaques from the RIAA.
The internet has recently pointed out that one can not occupy the same space as a J. Cole Stan without being told how their favorite rapper went platinum with no features, and now, they have even more ammunition, as “Wet Dreamz,” the single from the corresponding Cole album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, has also earned a platinum plaque.
The single is one of a few notable certifications from the RIAA, which has also reported that ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron has gone platinum, as well as Rae Sremmurd’s debut, SremmLife (along with the singles “This Could Be Us,” “Throw Sum Mo,” “Come Get Her,” and “No Type,” the last of which going double platinum). Wiz Khalifa’s “Black & Yellow” and “Roll Up” have gone 6x platinum and 2x platinum respectively, and N.W.A.’s “Straight Outta Compton,” the title track from their breakthrough album, has also finally hit platinum. Also of note, Jhene Aiko’s 2013 album, Sail Out, has achieved gold status.

Igbo Man Set ablaze in Calabar, What He did will Shock you. (See)

An infuriated mob on Tuesday allegedly beat a secondary school dropout, simply identified as Chidozie and set him ablaze for stealing mobile phones at Iyang Edem by Mount Zion in Calabar, Cross River state capital.
Chidozie, according to reports, belonged to a five-man robbery gang.
On the said day, Chidozie and his gang members allegedly visited Atu Secondary School, where they attacked a teacher and dispossessed her of valuables, including her phones.
Unfortunately for the gang, residents in the neighbourhood had been trailing them as they had been terrorising the area.
According to an eyewitness, luck ran out on Chidozie who could not run as fast as his gang members.
The eyewitness who spoke on conditions of anonymity said, “He was unfortunate, because the others escaped.
“Due to the spate of armed robberies in our area, they did not spare him because he refused to accept that the phone was with him.
“They beat him to death and then set him ablaze.
“We learnt that Chidozie was just released from prison last week and he was also rusticated from Atu Secondary School when he was in Senior Secondary, SS 2 due to the nefarious activities he was involved in,” the witness added, noting that they were happy that he was killed on the spot.
As at press time, Chidozie’s remains were still by the road side and the Police Public Relations Officers, PPRO, Irene Ugbo, could not be reached for comments.

Omisore Got N1.3bn From Dasuki Funds — EFCC

Tunde Odesola and Eniola Akinkuotu
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has traced N1.310bn to some company accounts allegedly belonging to a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
The money was said to be part of the N4.7bn allegedly disbursed by a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator
Musiliu Obanikoro, and his two sons, Gbolahan and Babajide.
The N4.7bn was said to have emanated from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014 and then transferred to the Diamond Bank account of Sylvan McNamara, a company in which Obanikoro’s sons are the signatories to its bank account.
Omisore, who has since been declared wanted by the anti-graft agency, allegedly received the funds in four tranches from Sylvan McNamara between July and August 2014, a few weeks before the Osun State governorship election which he lost.
A document detailing the transaction showed that the money was paid into three company accounts allegedly belonging to Omisore.
A detective at the anti-graft agency explained, “On July 9, 2014, N150m was paid into the bank account of Sawanara at First Bank. On August 1, 2014, N300m was paid into Sawanara Limited.
“On August 8, 2014, about N160m was paid into the bank account of Fimex Gilt Limited domiciled at UBA. On the day of the election, August 9, 2014, N350m was paid into the First Bank account of Metropolitan Consortium.”
Omisore had, however, denied receiving any money from the ONSA.
Speaking in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, on Wednesday, Omisore said the Federal Government was out to nail him and other members of the opposition at all cost.
He said, “I don’t know Dasuki from Adam. I never went to his office. The Federal Government is just using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to victimise and embarrass me.
“They had said I received N600m, they later said N1.9bn, now they are saying n1.3bn. Which of these figures do they want to pin on me? They have kept shifting the goalposts at will.”
The former deputy governor had also sued the EFCC for N10bn and prayed a Federal High Court in Abuja to grant him an order of perpetual injunction restraining the “defendants (the EFCC) either by themselves, their agents, officers, servants, privies or otherwise however called from making such or similar defamatory publication of and concerning the plaintiff (Omisore) to any person or persons.”
Meanwhile, the sons of Obanikoro on Wednesday shunned the invitation of the EFCC.
The anti-graft agency had last week stormed the home of Gbolahan and Babajide and seized the property located at 10 Mojisola Street, off Banana Island Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Woman bags four-year jail term for torturing 12-year-old

The police in Lagos State have arrested a woman, Funmi Otitoloju, for allegedly brutalising her 12-year-old niece identified only as Adeola, in the Baiyeku community of Ikorodu.

Our correspondent learnt that Otitoloju allegedly used a razor blade to cut the girl in the neck and hand because she entered other people’s apartments without her permission.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at about 6am, after which a Good Samaritan rushed the victim to a general hospital.

It was learnt that a neighour had reported to Otitoloju that the victim stole from her room.

PUNCH Metro learnt that when the neighbour was queried on what the 12-year-old stole, she could not answer.

Otitoloju reportedly punished her niece after her landlady also came to report that the girl sneaked into her apartment.

It was gathered that the girl was cut with a razor blade on that morning.

Our correspondent learnt that the hospital refused to treat Adeola insisting on a police report.

A worker with the Child Protection Network in the Ikorodu area was said to have been invited and the worker reported the matter at the Ikorodu Police Division.

The police, thereafter, arrested Otitoloju, while the victim was treated at the hospital.

Our correspondent learnt that Adeola, who is a primary 3 pupil, had been taken into government’s custody.

The police on Monday arraigned Otitoloju on two counts bordering on child abuse at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Ikorodu.

The charges read, “That you, Funmi Otitoloju, on June 9, at about 6.30am on Sambi Street, Off Macaulay area, off Baiyeku Road, in the Ikorodu Magisterial District, did assault one Adeola, 12 years old, with a razor blade on her right hand and neck, causing her bodily harm, and thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

“That you, Funmi Otitoloju, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully and indecently deal with a child, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.”

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges.

The razor blade was presented as an exhibit in court.

The Magistrate, Mrs. A.A. Oshoniyi, sentenced Otitoloju to four years’ imprisonment with no option of fine.[/

Full text of retired IGP, Solomon Arase's speech at the formal handing ceremony to Ibrahim Kpotun Idris at the Force HQ today

Valedictory Remarks by former IGP Solomon E. Arase, at
the formal handing ceremony held at the Force
Headquarters, today June 22nd. It reads,
It is with a feeling of deep appreciation of the
Almighty God that I address you on this occasion
marking my formal exit from the Nigeria Police
Force and transition of leadership to a new
Inspector General of Police.

2. Ladies and Gentlemen, exactly fourteen months ago,
destiny reposed on me the fortune of being appointed the
18th indigenous Inspector General of Police. Today,
natural sequence of history has not only occasioned the
successful completion of my tenure, but has also beckoned
on Ag. IGP Ibrahim Idris to step into the leadership space
as the 19th Indigenous Inspector General of Police.

3. You would recall that during my inaugural address, I
noted that -
The task of blending our acclaimed quality human assets
with quality leadership is the main challenge ahead of us,
but it is one I am convinced we can surmount’.
I also affirmed that – ‘on my part, I can assure you that I
will provide the highest possible level of professional and
responsible leadership, while trusting that you shall march
hand-in-hand with me as dependable professional
colleagues, to advance the fortunes of the Force’.

4. One year, two months away from this assertion and
clarion call, I can proudly note two significant
developments. First is that I feel professionally satisfied
that I enjoyed very high level of diligence, loyalty, sacrifice
and professionalism from all cadres of the Force. This
manifested in the great strides we collectively attained in
our common march towards restoring the lost primacy of
the Nigeria Police and bequeathing a Police Force of
citizens’ expectations to Nigerians.

5. Secondly, I am fulfilled that a widely experienced,
knowledgeable and passionate officer of the calibre of Ag.
IGP Ibrahim Idris has been appointed by the President,
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the
Federation to march the Force forward. I am convinced of
the capacity of Ag. IGP Idris to provide the requisite
leadership for the Force at this crucial time in the history of
not just the Nigeria Police Force, but of our nation. In this
regard, I can assure him of my support, even in retirement,
as well as my constant prayers.

6. Let me at this juncture, encourage the Nigeria Police
Family to extend the trademark loyalty, diligence, and
professionalism which I enjoyed from them, to the new
Force leadership. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the only
path to follow in our journey towards enhancing the
fortunes of our beloved Police Force as well as sustaining
our relevance within the national security architecture of
our country. Above all, this is the only path that will guide
us towards achieving the Policing Vision of Mr. President
within the Change Mantra conceptualized by the Federal
Government.

7. In driving this valedictory speech to a close, permit me
to deeply appreciate the support of all personnel of the
Nigeria Police. The journey might have been tortuous, but
looking back, we should all be proud that today, through an
inclusive leadership strategy which I adopted, the Nigeria
Police has acquired very strong intelligence, investigative
and operational capability which can and have of late been
deployed to crack any crime at any location within our
national geographical space. The dignity of an average
Nigeria Police officer has been restored. Public confidence
in our competency has been enlivened.

8. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is not that crimes will not
occur. No nation is immune from criminal activities. Today,
however, like other Police Forces across the world, we in
the Nigeria Police can beat our chests and make a clear
and bold statement to criminal elements threatening our
national value that if you commit any crime, we now have
the capacity not only to arrest you, but to bring you to
deserved justice in the most prompt, professional, and rule
of law-compliant manner. This is the profile of the Nigeria
Police Force you, my colleagues and all Nigerians have
aided me to bequeath to our beloved nation. This is a
legacy I can assure the nation that Ag. IGP Idris will not
only sustain, but will advance.

9. I, therefore, wish to heartily congratulate Ag. IGP
Ibrahim Idris for his well deserved appointment and to pray
for God’s wisdom as he settles into his schedules. I also
wish to immensely appreciate Mr. president for the trust
reposed in me and the firm support extended to me, even at
most difficult times in my leadership.

10. Indeed, the unique Presidential support acted as the
motivation that drove me through my tenure as Inspector-
General of Police. I can assure Mr. President, that I shall
remain eternally grateful and will sustain my commitment
to his vision and values even in retirement.

11. To members of the Press, my friends, and indeed all
Nigerians, as I bow out, I must put on record my deep
appreciation of your constructive criticisms, pieces of
informed advice, encouragement and unalloyed support for
me. I call on you to extend similar favour to my successor
even as I assure you all that the network we have built over
the years will remain valued and sustained as I walk into
retirement life.

12. I thank you all and pray for God’s spiritual protection
over Ag. IGP Ibrahim Idris and our beloved country.

Unbelievable! See what these Nigerians are doing on pedestrian bridge

In Lagos state years ago, the formergovernor Bola Ahmed Tinubu modernised thepedestrian bridges at Ketu, Mile 12, Fadeyi,Oshodi, Mile 2, Ojo cantonment, and a hostof other places, and in the process dislodgednumerous traders and beggars who hadoccupied the

bridges. Now a similarmodernisation is expected in Abuja and itsenvirons.Pedestrian bridges throughout the world areconstructed at strategic points to help peoplecross busy highways without having to risktheir lives dodging speeding vehicles andreckless drivers.Such bridges assist the public, impatientmotorists and agencies in charge of roadsafety to control or reduce deaths resultingfrom road accidents, especially of childrenand old people, as they eliminate theproximity of speeding cars and pedestrians, especially in high density,

well-populatedareas of cities. The impetus for the construction ofpedestrian bridges in the Federal CapitalTerritory was born out of the frequentaccidents recorded on its major expressroads, a high proportion of which involvedpeople who wanted to cross the roads totheir destination. Before the bridges were constructed,
morethan 100 people died from road accidentsyearly, many arising from reckless driving orover-speeding along the city’s majorhighways, according to statistics from theFederal Road Safety Commission. However, recently the original purpose forwhich the pedestrian bridges within Abujaand environs were built seems to have beenlost, as they have become virtual shops fortraders or points where beggars assemble tobeg.
