who else thinks Patoranking should not be a Judge
on the Voice Nigeria.
Have you ever been watching a Music Talent show
on TV and you see the Judges then you start losing
confidence on the credibility of the show? That was
the case after I stumbled on the The Voice Nigeria
Music Talent Show with Tuface, Timi Dakolo, Waje
and Patoranking as Judges. Yes Patoranking, you
heard that right. He is a Judge and Coach on the
Voice Nigeria music competition. A show where
judges are supposed to approve of contestants based
on their voices alone and the selected artists are
allowed to choose one of the judges as their coach
and Mentor.
NO ALBUM YET: Patoranking does not even have an
album yet. His Whayasay album has been in the
works ever before the advent of other newbies like
Kiss Daniel and co whom already have released their
albums. So an artiste with a scanty discography is
recruited to mentor other new upcoming artistes. So
maybe we are in the era when releasing an album
doesn’t matter anymore. Though the music industry
in Nigeria is still budding, its will be unfair for
young artistes to play Mentor roles in shows like this
just because of commercial viability.
NOT A SUPERB VOCALIST: Patoranking has done a
few good songs and no one can take that away from
him. Despite that he is not regarded as a vocalist
when the chips are down. How will he mentor
contestants on the main trait that the competition is
anchored on? It is a common saying that one cannot
give what he does not have. If Patoranking is a
superb vocalist, he is yet to prove it.
TOO STREET: Patoranking is the perfect description
of a Street Musician. From the interviews he has
always told us that his background is very dirty. He
sold gala in traffic and lived in the ghettos and that’s
a good grass to grace story but when you choose the
same person to be a judge on a show that most of
the contestants are singing songs by U.S artistes.
TOO PLAYFUL: There is a difference between being
playful and being too playful. Its good to have young
people in important positions but at the same time
they shouldn’t be carried away by the fun. These
contestants’ lives and careers depend on this show.
